A Lutheran Franciscan Community
We are a church in the city for good!
St. Francis of the City is a new church in the Greater East End of Houston. Our purpose is to discover, beauty, joy, and spirit in the bustling city!

We seek to cultivate a community committed to the spiritual, sacramental, and environmental practices that help people encounter Christ and work for justice in the world.

We invest in the arts, advocacy, education, holistic health for all people, safe schools and neighborhoods, and the work of eradicating the things that divide us, including racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.
Saint Francis of the City invites all people to know the love and grace of God in holy community. Our welcome is ever-expanding and inclusive of those of varying ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation and gender identity, immigration status, housing and employment status, and ability. We are a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation, and committed to the work of racial justice and LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Saint Francis of the City is part of the Lutheran branch of Christianity (ELCA). We hold to the creeds, confessions and worship practice of the historic church. We are also not afraid of reason and science, and what they teach us. We don't claim to always have the answers to your questions, but we do promise to accompany you in your holy curiosity!
Saint Francis is a congregation of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are also the motherhouse of the Order of Lutheran Franciscans, and under their care. We are a Reconciling in Christ community, and a regional hub for Lutheran Disaster Response.
